Title: The early morning light... Date: 06/17/08 Author: Klink
I was in San Diego yesterday playing right across the way from the US Open! Tiger vs Rocco... It was like Stalone vs Drago! I love golf myself, and every time I step out onto that first tee box, I think that if I just feel it enough I can play like a pro. Unfortunately, that's not the way it goes... I feel the fairway, but I hit the bunker, and even that's only if I'm lucky. I've started packing swimming trunks and hiking boots in with my clubs lately. I judge my day by whether I'm up or down golf balls! Not strokes. If I find a ball I'm up one... If I lose a ball I'm down one. A par day is finding as many golfballs as I lose!
The truth is that while talent may be a gift... There's only one way to acheive skill and precision. Feeling like a pro doesn't substitute for commiting to your craft like a pro. If any of you saw tigers 215 yd bunker shot on the 17th through the trees and around a bend landing within feet of the hole to save par in sudden death, you saw one of the best pressure shots in the history of golf. That shot was not a gift...
It was the result of decades of work and dedication to a craft. Most likely there are people in history who had more talent than Woods, but no one with more dedication, and that's what makes the difference. It's what you do in the early morning light that determines what you will eventually do in the limelight.

Title: Praise In The Park Date: 06/13/08 Author: Klink
Over the weekend, I got to do Praise in the Park in Loveland, Colorado and revisit all my friends at Rez! I wore the tshirt and everything. I ate buffalo while I was there... when in Rome and all! Maybe I can make Praise in the Park a yearly tradition! I'm back in the studio today working more on the Star Spangled Banner, so watch for that in the next month... I'll probably be putting it on my website as soon as it's done!

Title: J Fest / Chattanooga Date: 06/03/08 Author: Klink
I played at J Fest in Chattanooga this year and it was great! I got to meet the guys from IMPACT; those are the dudes who break and bend stuff, and I beat one of them at arm wrestling. Ok that’s totally not true, but they are hysterical off stage and we might work together in the future! Also, one of my best friends came to visit me from Nashville and we all just hung out, drank sweet tea and ate bbq... thats pretty much what you do in chattanooga! I moved recently to LA and if we could just get a decent bbq place that served sweet tea, I think people would be a whole lot friendlier there. I’m also working right now on a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, so if anyone out there knows a good instrumental version, let me know!

Title: Oregon Date: 05/22/08 Author: David
Its weekends like this one that make me want to stay in Oregon! I got to see my little nephew's last game of his first season... He scored four goals! The kids a machine! I also had the honor of performing at the kick off to Luis Palau's "Summer of Service" campaign! It went so well he's going have me back for the main festival in August!

Title: Savannah Date: 05/20/08 Author: David
I just got to play in one of my favorite cities on Earth, "Midnight in the Garden"! In Savannah Georgia, if you mention "the book" that's the first thing that comes to their mind. It's a story of intrigue and southern gentility that captures some of the heart and spirit of Savannah. Not to mention Savannah is home to the bench that Forest Gump sat on! I couldn't help myself I had to sit on it! And since they invited me to play at the NACC Conference in July, I'm looking forward to hanging with the folks at Savannah Christian Church again!

Title: He may beat me in racquetball, but I'll beat him i Date: 04/04/07 Author:
So, I didn't stick to my strategy and found myself playing Farnsworth at racquetball again. He brought all his own gear this time and when he entered the ring, he was in full form. Goggles, pads, a racquet he calls "Excalibur"....The works!!! This time around didn't work out so good for the Klink, but it was still fun! When I get back to Nashville, we're gonna have to see how good Farns is at golf!
Later! KLINK

Title: Thinking about my next album Date: 03/29/07 Author: Klink
So we're nearing the end of the tour, and I'm already starting to miss it. Although right after I get off the road, I am going back into the studio to cut my fourth album. It's going to be full of hymns, and I thought a good name for it would be "Legacy"...What do you think? Maybe "Fiddle-Legacy"!!!
If you have a good name for it, let me know and maybe we can use it!
Best!

Title: Confessions from the Road! Date: 03/22/07 Author:
Well I do love the road, but I have a confession to make. For those people who know me... I lose things. I've been hemmoraging my belongings all over the western seaboard. My goal is to return back home by the end of the tour with only the clothes on my back and a fiddle... probably minus the case too!
I played Farnsworth, the tour manager, again at racquetball and the stars and planets must have aligned because I managed to win a game. I gave him a chicken drumstick to use as a racquet but I still feel the sweet smell of victory. My plan is just to never play him again so I can remain the tour champion.
For now that's it...but there will be more updates for sure!

Title: An update from the road...The tour so far! Date: 03/16/07 Author: David
The tour is going amazingly. I love being out on the road meeting all the fans and exploring new cities. Most of the people I am touring with are married and have families. Me on the other hand... I just love touring!!! It's my favorite thing. I played the tour manager at racquetball... which is similar to my favorite sport badminton but different... and now we have this ridiculous rivalry going. All the guys from Big Daddy Weave come out and watch us.. it's like a war with racquets. This tour has been really cool because we are on the west coast and my friends and family were able to make it to some of the shows. I do miss the sweet tea of the south but there's something about the northwest that I don't ever want to leave. Stay tuned for more updates from the road!

Title: Tomorrow it begins...The start of The Broken and B Date: 02/21/07 Author: David
So the bus leaves tonight for our first show in Terre Haute, Indiana and it looks like it's going to be a great tour! I had the opportunity to see the show in its entirety last night for the run through and it looks great! Today, I went out and did my last minute shopping for tour essentials. The first thing on my list to bring is a football because I found out last tour that Mark Schultz is quite an athlete, and we both love throwing the football around before shows. I know… it's a rough life! I hope to see you out on the tour!

Title: Getting Ready For Tour Date: 02/16/07 Author: David
Hey everyone! I'm in Nashville right now gearing up for the spring Broken and Beautiful Tour and I'm so excited about being back out on the road again with Mark Schultz and Big Daddy Weave! I came to Nashville early to write songs with some friends of mine here and it's been going really well! I've always written songs with the violin but I've never tried my hand at vocals and it's definitely a new experience. It's a good thing I know a couple people like Victoria Shaw who are gracious enough to help me with the process. Hopefully I'll be passing your way on the upcoming tour because I'd love to see all of you guys out on the road!

Title: My start in the music business... Date: 11/28/06 Author: Klink
I was recently asked how I got my start in this business of music... I thought you might be interested to read it too. Let me know what you think in the comments section below!
------------------
When an artist stops being an amateur and begins a journey into professional full time music is usually less of a "start" and more of a process. I grew up playing in church for worship and remember from a very early age feeling a connection with the people who were congregated there. worship music is distinct from other types of music not only in its composition but also in its focus, which is probably the single biggest influence on my musical style. the intent of most musical artists is to create connection with the audience or impress them in some way. the focus of worship is distinct because it is not on you or your audience, but on your creator... and the purpose of worship music is to bring an audience into closer relationship with God, not the musician whose performing.
When that turned into a career was probably when I signed my first record deal with Pamplin Entertainment.. but throughout that whole process i had to take on odd jobs because i wasn't making any money... which makes it hard to call myself a professional. When Pamplin folded and i moved back home to finish college, i poured myself into studying for the lLSAT because assuming that my fiddle career was over, i wanted to go to law school. I ended up teaching the LSAT as one of my jobs, but found that it was easier to do than to teach. the night before i took the LSAT, however, which was the last time the test was offered for the following fall enrollment period, i was driving home from a charity function i had been performing at and was rear ended on the highway. i awoke the next morning in no shape to take the six hour mind bending marathon that some describe as the hardest test on earth.. so i had to cancel it. this meant i had a whole year and a half before i could go to law school again so i had to find something to do with myself. i ended up touring the album that pamplin had made around to different local churches and found that it was an incredibly successful and rewarding experience. i strongly felt that God was leading me into this career and away from my law school ambitions and so i set my mind to making a new album and one that i could finally be proud of. a year and an ocean of blood sweat and tears later, i had fiddle-levity. for the cd release concert i felt strongly that God wanted me to step out of my comfort zone and do something that was far beyond my individual capability... something that only God could pull off. When all my musical peers and friends were telling me to have the concert in a small church or a coffee shop, i decided to book one of the largest venues in the northwest.. the portland memorial coliseum where the blazers play. everyone thought i had lost my last brain cell.. some supporters even backed out for fear that this was going to turn into a debacle.. but for the first time in my life i really felt that i was called to do this. extremely long story short.. it turned out to be the most successful independant concert that had ever been held there and we gave out well over seven thousand tickets. i consider that leap of faith to be when my career started.
